{"id":2827,"date":"2022-07-03T21:18:42","date_gmt":"2022-07-03T20:18:42","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.torbox.ch\/?p=2827"},"modified":"2022-07-19T19:32:13","modified_gmt":"2022-07-19T18:32:13","slug":"update-your-torbox-3","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.torbox.ch\/?p=2827","title":{"rendered":"Update your TorBox"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>Six months have passed since <a href=\"https:\/\/www.torbox.ch\/?p=2595\">the initial release of TorBox v.0.5.0<\/a>. <s>Version 0.5.1 will probably be released at the end of this year.<\/s> Nevertheless, it was time to fix some bugs in version v.0.5.0 (especially concerning using <a href=\"https:\/\/www.torbox.ch\/?page_id=797\">OBFS4 bridges<\/a>). If you re-install TorBox (using <a href=\"https:\/\/www.torbox.ch\/data\/torbox-20220703-v050.gz\">the image file<\/a> or one of <a href=\"https:\/\/www.torbox.ch\/?page_id=1168\">the installation scripts<\/a>), in the case of Raspberry Pi OS, you will find the 64bit version with the <a rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" href=\"https:\/\/kernelnewbies.org\/Linux_5.10\" target=\"_blank\">Linux kernel 5.15.32<\/a> and <a rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" href=\"https:\/\/gitweb.torproject.org\/tor.git\/plain\/ChangeLog?id=tor-0.4.7.8\" target=\"_blank\">Tor version 0.4.7.8<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Also new in the update: The <a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/MAC_address\">MAC addresses <\/a>of the network interfaces are now randomized. At the same time, a new way of overcoming captive portals is introduced, which is based on manipulating the MAC address of the Raspi network interface that is connected to the Internet (we have already reported on this in the blog <a href=\"https:\/\/www.torbox.ch\/?p=2643\">here<\/a>; however, details about the implementation and use can be found <a href=\"https:\/\/www.torbox.ch\/?page_id=2666\">here<\/a>).<\/p>\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\">\n<figure class=\"aligncenter size-large is-resized\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.torbox.ch\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/07\/captive-portal-v050-e1656741441569.png\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.torbox.ch\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/07\/captive-portal-v050-1024x713.png\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-2795\" width=\"760\"\/><\/a><figcaption>TorBox provides two approaches to passing through a&nbsp;<a rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Captive_portal\" target=\"_blank\">captive portal<\/a>: <strong>SPOOFING<\/strong> or&nbsp;<strong>TUNNELLING<\/strong>. This shouldn&#8217;t alter your custom-made configurations &#8211; however, I don&#8217;t promise anything (if needed, make a backup!).<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ol class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>Please, make sure that TorBox has Internet connectivity.<\/li><li>First, update the TorBox menu in the <a rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" href=\"https:\/\/www.torbox.ch\/?page_id=1410\" target=\"_blank\">Update and Maintenance sub-menu<\/a> (entry 5) to immediately benefit from the bug fixes.<\/li><li>Update the base system, the additional network drivers and the Tor version: Go to the<a href=\"https:\/\/www.torbox.ch\/?page_id=1410\">&nbsp;<\/a><a rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" href=\"https:\/\/www.torbox.ch\/?page_id=1410\" target=\"_blank\">Update and Maintenance sub-menu<\/a> and use entries 1, 2 and 4.<\/li><li>Press ESC until you have left the Torbox menu and find yourself back at the command line. Here use the following commands:<br><code>sudo apt-get -y install macchanger<\/code><br><code>cd; cd torbox; sudo cp etc\/rc.local \/etc <\/code> <\/li><li>Reboot TorBox.<\/li><\/ol>\n\n\n\n\n\n<h5 class=\"wp-block-heading\">We need your feedback!!<\/h5>\n\n\n\n<p>We hope this version pleases you. Please feel free to use the&nbsp;<a rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" href=\"https:\/\/github.com\/radio24\/TorBox\/discussions\" target=\"_blank\">discussion forum<\/a>&nbsp;to tell us your needs.<\/p>\n\n\n\n\n\n<h5 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Known problems and bugs<\/h5>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li><strong>BUG<\/strong>: The latest official version (4.0.x) of the Python module <a href=\"https:\/\/www.djangoproject.com\/download\/\">Django<\/a> will break the upload functionality. The bug can be fixed with the following command:<br><code>sudo pip3 install Django==3.2.14<\/code><br>The installation scripts are already fixed. <strong>However, the image file is not fixed yet \u2014 PENDING!&nbsp;<\/strong>\u23f3<\/li><li><strong>BUG<\/strong>: The SPOOFING method to pass through captive portal is broken due to a bug. Also the example in the dialog suggests that the elements of the MAC address is seprated by a &#8220;-&#8221; instead of an &#8220;:&#8221;, which leads to an error message. You can fix the bug by updating the TorBox menu (<a href=\"https:\/\/www.torbox.ch\/?page_id=1410\">update and maintenance sub-menu entry 5<\/a>). <strong>However, the image file is not fixed yet \u2014 PENDING!&nbsp;<\/strong>\u23f3<\/li><li><strong>BUG<\/strong>: Using bridges, following error is appearing: <code>line 118+119: online_check: command not found\" (no connection to bridge database)<\/code>. This is because of a change of the path of the torbox library (torbox.lib), which uses a <code>~<\/code> .  This wasn&#8217;t a good idea &#8211; we changed to the absolute path.
