We also heavily updated our <a href=\"https:\/\/www.torbox.ch\/?page_id=112#fingerprinting\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" target=\"_blank\">recommended browser add-ons<\/a>, which are mainly available for <a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Firefox\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" target=\"_blank\">Firefox<\/a> (our number one choice for web browsers alongside the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.torproject.org\/download\/\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" target=\"_blank\">Tor Browser<\/a>). Here you can find a copy of the updated recommendations (the original list can be found <a href=\"https:\/\/www.torbox.ch\/?page_id=112#fingerprinting\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" target=\"_blank\">here<\/a>):<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.eff.org\/https-everywhere\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" target=\"_blank\">https-everywhere<\/a><\/strong>: Automatically makes websites use a more secure <a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/HTTPS\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" target=\"_blank\">HTTPS<\/a> connection instead of <a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Hypertext_Transfer_Protocol\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" target=\"_blank\">HTTP<\/a> if they support it. With HTTPS, even the connection between the Tor exit node and the web server is encrypted. Tor Browser also uses this add-on. NoScript also provides powerful <a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Cross-site_scripting\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" target=\"_blank\">anti-XSS<\/a> and <a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Clickjacking\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" target=\"_blank\">anti-Clickjacking<\/a> protection. Tor Browser also uses this add-on. (<strong>USED BY TOR BROWSER<\/strong>; ESSENTIAL for SECURITY \/ ANONYMITY; available for <a href=\"https:\/\/addons.mozilla.org\/de\/firefox\/addon\/noscript\/\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" target=\"_blank\">Firefox<\/a> and <a href=\"https:\/\/chrome.google.com\/webstore\/detail\/noscript\/doojmbjmlfjjnbmnoijecmcbfeoakpjm\/\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" target=\"_blank\">Chrome<\/a>).<\/li>\n<li><strong><a href=\"https:\/\/github.com\/mozfreddyb\/webext-firstpartyisolation\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" target=\"_blank\">First Party Isolation<\/a><\/strong>: First Party Isolation, also known as <a href=\"https:\/\/2019.www.torproject.org\/projects\/torbrowser\/design\/#identifier-linkability\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" target=\"_blank\">Cross-Origin Identifier Unlinkability, is a concept from the Tor Browser<\/a>. The idea is to key every source of browser identification with the domain in the URL bar (the first party). This makes all access to identifiers distinct between usage in the website itself and through third-party. Think of it as blocking Third-party cookies, but more exhaustively. (<strong>USED BY TOR BROWSER<\/strong>; ESSENTIAL for SECURITY \/ ANONYMITY; available for <a href=\"https:\/\/addons.mozilla.org\/de\/firefox\/addon\/first-party-isolation\/\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" target=\"_blank\">Firefox<\/a>).<\/li>\n<li><strong><a href=\"https:\/\/github.com\/gorhill\/uBlock\/\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" target=\"_blank\">uBlock Origin<\/a><\/strong>: The only real working and independent ad blocker (ESSENTIAL for SECURITY \/ ANONYMITY \/ USABILITY; available for <a href=\"https:\/\/addons.mozilla.org\/de\/firefox\/addon\/ublock-origin\/\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" target=\"_blank\">Firefox<\/a>, <a href=\"https:\/\/chrome.google.com\/webstore\/detail\/ublock-origin\/cjpalhdlnbpafiamejdnhcphjbkeiagm\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" target=\"_blank\">Chrome<\/a>, <a href=\"https:\/\/github.com\/el1t\/uBlock-Safari#ublock-originfor-safari\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" target=\"_blank\">Safari<\/a>, and <a href=\"https:\/\/addons.opera.com\/de\/extensions\/details\/ublock\/\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" target=\"_blank\">Opera<\/a>).<\/li>\n<li><strong><a href=\"https:\/\/gitlab.com\/smart-referer\/smart-referer\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" target=\"_blank\">Smart Referer<\/a><\/strong>: Prevents Cross Domain Referer Leakage (ESSENTIAL for ANONYMITY; available for <a href=\"https:\/\/addons.mozilla.org\/de\/firefox\/addon\/smart-referer\/\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" target=\"_blank\">Firefox<\/a>).<\/li>\n<li><strong><a href=\"https:\/\/github.com\/kkapsner\/CanvasBlocker\/\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" target=\"_blank\">CanvasBlocker<\/a><\/strong>: Allows users to prevent websites from using the Javascript canvas API for fingerprinting them. (ESSENTIAL for ANONYMITY; available for <a href=\"https:\/\/addons.mozilla.org\/de\/firefox\/addon\/canvasblocker\/\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" target=\"_blank\">Firefox<\/a>)<\/li>\n<li><strong><a href=\"https:\/\/decentraleyes.org\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" target=\"_blank\">Decentraleyes<\/a><\/strong>: This browser add-on emulates <a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Content_delivery_network\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" target=\"_blank\">Content Delivery Networks<\/a> (CDN) by finding supported resources locally, and injecting them into the environment. (ESSENTIAL for ANONYMITY; available for <a href=\"https:\/\/addons.mozilla.org\/de\/firefox\/addon\/neat-url\/\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" target=\"_blank\">Firefox<\/a>)<\/li>\n<li><strong><a href=\"https:\/\/github.com\/sblask\/webextension-skip-redirect\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" target=\"_blank\">Skip Redirect<\/a><\/strong>: Some web pages use intermediary pages before redirecting to a final page. This add-on tries to extract the final url from the intermediary url and goes there straight away if successful. (ESSENTIAL for PRIVACY \/ USABILITY; available for <a href=\"https:\/\/addons.mozilla.org\/de\/firefox\/addon\/skip-redirect\/\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" target=\"_blank\">Firefox<\/a>)<\/li>\n<li><strong><a href=\"https:\/\/privacypass.github.io\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" target=\"_blank\">Privacy Pass<\/a><\/strong>: Allow users to redeem validly signed tokens instead of completing captcha solutions. Clients receive 30 signed tokens for each captcha that is initially solved. Cloudflare currently supports Privacy Pass. (ESSENTIAL for USABILITY; available for <a href=\"https:\/\/addons.mozilla.org\/en-US\/firefox\/addon\/privacy-pass\/\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" target=\"_blank\">Firefox<\/a> and <a href=\"https:\/\/chrome.google.com\/webstore\/detail\/privacy-pass\/ajhmfdgkijocedmfjonnpjfojldioehi\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" target=\"_blank\">Chrome<\/a>).<\/li>\n<li><strong><a href=\"https:\/\/github.com\/gorhill\/uMatrix\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" target=\"_blank\">uMatrix<\/a><\/strong>: Point and click matrix to filter net requests according to its source, destination, and type (available <a href=\"https:\/\/addons.mozilla.org\/de\/firefox\/addon\/umatrix\/\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" target=\"_blank\">Firefox<\/a>, <a href=\"https:\/\/chrome.google.com\/webstore\/detail\/umatrix\/ogfcmafjalglgifnmanfmnieipoejdcf\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" target=\"_blank\">Chrome<\/a>, and <a href=\"https:\/\/addons.opera.com\/en-gb\/extensions\/details\/umatrix\/\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" target=\"_blank\">Opera<\/a>).<\/li>\n<li><strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.eff.org\/privacybadger\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" target=\"_blank\">Privacy Badger<\/a><\/strong>: A balanced approach to internet privacy between consumers and content providers by blocking advertisements and tracking cookies that do not respect the <a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Do_Not_Track\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" target=\"_blank\">Do Not Track<\/a> setting in a user&#8217;s web browser (available for Firefox, Chrome, and Opera).<\/li>\n<li><strong><a href=\"https:\/\/getfoxyproxy.org\/downloads\/\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" target=\"_blank\">FoxyProxy<\/a><\/strong>: FoxyProxy is an advanced proxy management tool (<a href=\"https:\/\/www.torbox.ch\/?page_id=112#09\">see also here<\/a>; available for Firefox, Chrome, Safari, Opera, and others).\n<li><strong>Bypass Paywalls<\/strong>: Let&#8217;s say you are a researcher and one of your sources is an article in the Washington Post.
