Review: Tor router on Raspberry Pi

TorBox running on Hoek’s hardware configuration.

Hoek wrote on his website 0ut3r Space, a very nice guide / review about the TorBox. He used a Raspberry Pi 4 Model B in combination with a 3.5inch RPi Display (TFT) with an XPT2046 touch screen controller. Of course, the touch functionality won’t work in the shell terminal. The TFT and a beautiful matching case can be found on Aliexpress. I ordered it today to write a new guide for the advanced section because the Pimoroni’s Pibow PiTFT+ case for the PiTFT 3.5″ resistive touch 320×480 from Adafruit is is not available for the Raspberry Pi 4. Possibly we will implement the driver installation in a future version of TorBox in the configuration sub-menu.

Thank you, Hoek, for your kind review!

  1. Question, I have adafruit tft and I like to leave Tor statistics running 24/7, I like the info and it looks cool. After a few days it automatically returns to the torbox menu and I have to restart Tor Stats. Is this a bug or is there a way to make it stay perminently on Stats?

  2. Hello Steve
That’s odd. TorBox has no built-in limitation on the runtime of the statistics monitor. I’m using several Raspberry Pi 3 and 4 with such Adafruit TFT, and the stats screens are running permanently. However, on my installations, no other additional programs are running, only TorBox from the latest image and with the latest updates. The only recommendation I can give is to use the latest TorBox image and perform an update (Main menu entry 12, then select options 1 and 4).

    1. Thanks for the suggestions. I tried updating as you suggested and it’s still happening. I’m using a RP 4 with 1g ram, maybe the ram is filling up?

      1. I don’t think so. I’m using it also with two of my old Raspberry Pi 3 Model B+ without any problem. Sorry, at the moment, I don’t know how I can help you to solve that problem.

  3. You’re welcome! What a surprise, I come today to download new version, I add RSS feed to not forget about new updates, and here I look at news about my review 🙂 Thanks for sharing my post here, it’s an honor.
