Debian 13 (Trixie) was released in August 2025. Raspberry Pi OS 6.x, based on Debian 13, was released in October 2025. As a result, the TorBox installation scripts no longer ran properly. At the beginning of December, we fixed the installation scripts and also created new images for TorBox (Raspberry Pi) and TorBox mini (Raspberry Pi Zero 2 W).
TorBox Image (about 2 GB): v.0.5.5 (01.12.2025) – SHA-256 values
TorBox mini Image (about 1 GB): v.0.5.5 (01.12.2025) – SHA-256 values
TorBox Menu only: v.0.5.5 (01.12.2025) – SHA-256 values
Alternatively, you can download the image from our TorBox cloud test installation.

Changelog
Besides the update to the Debian 13 base, some more issues were addressed:
- Updated: The system is based on Raspberry Pi OS “Trixie” lite 64bit with the Linux Kernel 6.12.47 and Tor version 0.4.8.21 with obfs4proxy version 0.0.14 and Snowflake 2.11.0.
- Updated: Compatibility for Debian 13 Trixie: dnsutils replaced by bind9-dnsutils / ntpdate replaced by ntpsec-ntpdate / raspberrypi-kernel-headers replaced by linux-headers-* / dhclient is not installed by default anymore and has to be installed with the package isc-dhcp-client / /etc/sysctl.conf is not compatible –> using sysctl.d / stem Python Library updated to 1.8.2.
- Updated: Git Snowflake URL reverted to the original.
- Updated: Python libraries to close vulnerabilities.
- New: WPA3 support for the TorBox Wireless Manager.
- New: Although we don’t recommend it, the bandwidth for Tor network traffic can now be limited in the Configuration sub-menu (addressing issue #116).
- New: The Danger Zone sub-menu now includes all menu entries for advanced users who could compromise security or lock a user out of the system. For example, we moved all menu entries that manipulate SSH access to the TorBox into the Danger Zone.
- New: Support for passwordless TorBox’s WLAN (addressing issue #144).
- Fixed: TFS –> Setting the right download/upload permissions
- Fixed: TCS (several fixes)
- Fixed: No Python libraries must be installed using
apt-get. This fix avoids errors usingpip3. - Improved: SSH access from the Internet and/or clients can now be configured in greater detail (addressing issue #83).
- Improved: Added automatic Ethernet interface detection for cable clients when Main Menu entries 6–8 are used, which automatically detects the correct ethX interface. Therefore, these Main Menu entries now support ethX with X> 0 (addressing issue #365).
- Improved: The way of disabling Bluetooth.
- Improved: Reducing the amount of terminal output.
- Removed: WiringPi – it is not necessary anymore.

We need your feedback!!
We hope this version pleases you. However, we are dependent on feedback. It is not just about fixing bugs and improving usability, but also about supporting additional interfaces and hardware in future releases:
- What do you like?
- What should be improved (why and how)?
- What would you like to see next? Which features do you request?
With the TorBox GitHub repository, it is straightforward for anyone to report issues or change the code and submit a pull request. Because we continue to travel, it sometimes takes longer to address issues and proposals.
For future versions, we need to understand your requirements and what you would like to see from the Onion Services implementation. Please feel free to use the discussion forum to share your needs with us.
Torbox mini 0.5.5 will not work on rpi zero 2 w. The previous torbox mini version would work sometimes.
After connecting the rpi zero 2 w to a debian pc a connection is established. I ran through the setup menu. And the rpi zero 2 w connected to the internet router in question. Bootstrapping started and got to 100%. But I got no internet connection. I restarted the rpi zero 2 w several times. No internet connection. If I try to ssh from the debian computer to the torbox mini rpi zero 2 w, I get a permission denied message.

Is the password CHANGE-IT? To my knowledge I have set no password. I cannot log in to the torbox mini rpi zero 2 w. Suggestions? Thank you.
Thank you for your feedback.
Sometimes, after the initial setup, you may need to select entry #7 in the main menu (Wireless network or TorBox mini) again. Did you try that? I believe this may fix the problem because your RPi Zero 2 W has internet access; otherwise, you wouldn’t get 100%. However, it seems some of the configurations may be incorrect, and this can be resolved by selecting entry #7 in the main menu.
The default password is CHANGE-IT. Are you sure you have the correct keyboard layout, so you actually get the “-” and not another character? Did you try connecting with an SSH client or via WebSSH using http://192.168.44.1 in a browser?
I would also like to mention that I have just released an updated version (torbox-mini-20260322-v055.img.xz; https://www.torbox.ch/data/torbox-mini-20260322-v055.img.xz) that fixes some bugs. Perhaps you would like to try it to see if it works more reliably in your case.
Please discard my previous comment.
I once more installed torbox-mini-20251201-v055.img on a raspberry pi zero 2 w. Connected the rpi zero 2 w to a debian 12 computer. A connection between the rpi zero 2 w and the debian computer got established. I ran the torbox mini setup menu. Bootstrapping reached 100%. But no internet connection. Webrowser does not get internet connection. ping any website returns Temporary failure in name resolution.
Then I connected the same torbox mini rpi zero 2 w to a trisquel 12 computer. Without doing anything the torbox mini rpi zero 2 w established a connection to the trisquel 12 computer. And the trisquel 12 computer got internet connection. check.torproject.org says the computer is using tor. And a my ip address search returns a tor exit node ip address and not the actual ip address. ping a given website confirms there is internet connection.
I conclude that on the trisquel 12 computer torbox-mini-20251201-v055.img on a rpi zero 2 w works. On the debian 12 computer torbox-mini-20251201-v055.img on a rpi zero 2 w does not work. I assume something is wrong about the debian 12 installation but I do not know what.
If you install
https://support.apple.com/en-us/106380
Bonjour Print Services for Windows v2.0.2
on a windows 10 computer and install
torbox-mini-20260322-v055.img on a raspberry pi zero 2 w and connect the computers then you can expect to get a working instance of torbox mini? Thanks.
